Macroscopicly forming blue-green rope-like fascicles in the benthic habitat, intermixed with other algae and cyanobacteria. Filaments tightly entengled, sometimes several of them (meaning with their own sheaths) inclosed into the one colorless common sheath, up to 2 um wide. Trichomes ussually without individual sheaths, but sometimes they (sheaths) distinct, trichomes blue-green. Cells often longer then wide, clearly constricted. Apical cells elongated, gradually attenuated, acute conical, upto 10 um. Taxonomic note:Genus Schizothrix is not currently well establish genetically as well as morphologically. Several species have been reported/described from the North America, however not from the saline/marine environment.
