Macrocoloy in form of pale blue-green mat. Filaments more or less long, without any type of false branching. Sheaths colorless, thin, firm, tightly enveloping trichome, obvious when empty. Trichomes distinctly constricted, 1.1-1.45 um wide. Apical cells elongated, rounded. Cells isodiametric, sometimes longer than wide 1.2- 2.2um in length, 1.1-1.4 um wide. Necridia absent. Stenomitos has been found in subarctic and antarctic soils as well as caves in Hawaii. This morphotype was collected from gypsiferous desert soil in Southwestern New Mexico. Could also be Pseudanabaena sp. or Leptolyngbya sp.
