Romeria cryophila Kol
Filaments solitary, straight or curved, single, consisting of 8-16 cells, 3 um wide (with sheaths), 20-40 um long; trichomes 1-1.5 um wide, cylindrical, not constricted at cross-walls. Cells cylindrical, bluish-green, with homogeneous content, isodiametric or twice longer than wide (1-3 um long). Occasionally forms groups of several filaments. Trichomes surrounded by about 1 um wide, yellowish gelatinous sheath. "Septa occasionally hardly discernible." The generic classification should be revised.
Occurrence: Cryosestic; alpine snow fields in High Tatra Mts. (valley near Lake Morskie Oko, 1500 m asl.), Poland.
